She had scared and scattered Pokémon as she ran through the tall grass of Route 1. Sending Pidgey and Rattata fleeing in all directions from the commotion she was making as she fled along the route.
It wasn't until she encountered a wild Furret, that was none to pleased to have been disturbed, that she was forced to stop and engage in battle.
After being startled out of her thoughts by it's hissing, and stopping to notice the wild Pokémon has arched it's back and is slowly backing away with bristled fur, Jovan inhales a breathe and slowly sets her Charmander down.
Charmander gains a glint in it's eyes as it eyes the aggravated Furret, his tail twitching behind him causing the flame on his tail to flicker.
Wiping her eyes with her sleeve Jovan gains a determined expression and confidently commands Charmander into battle, "Use Growl!"
Giving stern look the Charmander growls at the defensive Furret. With a final hiss and step backwards, the wild pokemon retaliates by lunging forward into a quick attack. Effectively slamming into Charmander.
"Quick, Scratch attack!"
Recovering quickly Charmander rears back and leaps forward slashing at the furry pokémon with it's sharp little claws, scoring a clean hit.
Slinking back the Furret curls into a ball to better defend itself.
"Let's try a flamethrower!"
Letting out a battle cry the Charmander opens it's maw wide and spits a blaze of fire at the curled up Furret.
Letting out a squeak the Furret uncurls after the flame passes and darts away to disappear into the tall grass.
"Great Job! I knew you could do it!" Jovan runs over to pick up Charmander and twirls around holding the little fire lizard above her head in front of her.
Squeaking with delight the fire Pokémon flails it's arms and legs in celebration.
Pulling the Charmander back to her chest Jovan scans the surrounding area, "I suppose I ran off into the route without watching where I was going... But luckily this is a straight forward route and it's not easy to get lost. Continuing to Viridian City is the best thing to do."
A few battles later Jovan has made it to the final patch of grass and pulls out her Pokédex to check Charmander's stats.
"Wow! You should be able to learn Ember soon! That will probably be easier on you than Flamethrower... you're still quite young and I don't want to push you too hard! You'll get a nice rest at the Pokémon Center when we get ther, okay?"
Chirping in reply the Charmander waddles up to Jovan and gazes up at her.
"Return!" Jovan calls out as she points the Pokéball at Charmander, proceeding to set it back on her belt.
"I've been so busy having Charmander gain experience I haven't tried catching any Pokémon yet! But there's going to be more on the routes ahead. I'm pretty sure Viridian Gym is still closed right now..." muttering to herself Jovan makes her way to the reception gate between Route 1 and Viridian city.

Like I said last time, I didn't want to put these together and ruin the flow of alternating POV.
And I accidentally wrote this before the previous chapter XD;

Yeah, reading duels/battles is always a little... interesting, but this one was short and sweet and made sense for a beginning trainer. Char char!
